Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the actions taken by Man with Van Stepney to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our own operations and in our supply chains. As a local transport and removals business, we recognise that our responsibilities extend beyond our direct workforce to all organisations and individuals who supply goods and services to us.
Modern slavery is a severe violation of fundamental human rights and includes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, debt bondage, and human trafficking. Man with Van Stepney is committed to operating ethically, transparently, and with integrity in all our business dealings.
Our Zero-Tolerance Policy
Man with Van Stepney has a clear zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking. We do not accept any form of forced, bonded, or involuntary labour in our business or supply chains. We expect the same high standards from all our suppliers, contractors, and business partners.
No employee, worker, or contractor must ever be required to pay recruitment fees, surrender identity documents, or work under threat, coercion, or deception. All work must be voluntary, and workers must be free to leave their employment upon reasonable notice. We are committed to ensuring that wages, working hours, and conditions are consistent with applicable laws and industry standards.
Supply Chain Standards and Due Diligence
Our supply chain primarily includes vehicle leasing and maintenance providers, fuel suppliers, equipment and packing material suppliers, and subcontracted drivers or porters. We communicate our zero-tolerance stance to these parties and expect them to uphold the same values and legal obligations with respect to modern slavery.
We use a risk-based approach to assess suppliers, taking into account sector, geography, and the nature of the services provided. Where we identify areas of higher risk, we apply enhanced scrutiny and require clear evidence of policies and practices that protect workers from exploitation.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
To reinforce our commitment, Man with Van Stepney conducts periodic supplier checks and audits that are proportionate to the level of risk and the scale of the relationship. These may include requesting documentation on labour practices, reviewing policies on worker welfare, and asking for confirmation that no forced or trafficked labour is used in the provision of goods or services to us.
Where appropriate, we may undertake site visits or request evidence of third-party certifications or ethical audits. If any supplier is found to be in breach of our standards or the law, we will take prompt action, which may include requiring corrective measures, suspending the relationship, or terminating the contract.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Man with Van Stepney encourages open communication and provides safe channels for raising concerns about modern slavery, human trafficking, or any related unethical behaviour. Employees, workers, contractors, and other third parties are encouraged to report any suspected or actual instances of exploitation or human rights abuses connected to our operations or supply chains.
Concerns can be raised directly with management or through existing internal reporting routes. Reports can be made in confidence, and we will take all allegations seriously. We will not tolerate any form of retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith. All reports will be reviewed promptly, and where appropriate, investigated and addressed through corrective actions, including engagement with relevant authorities.
Training and Awareness
We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery among our staff, particularly those involved in procurement, supplier management, and recruitment. Training and guidance focus on recognising indicators of exploitation, understanding our policies, and knowing how to report concerns.
We also seek to build understanding among smaller subcontractors and partners by explaining our expectations regarding fair treatment, voluntary labour, and lawful employment practices, thereby promoting a culture of respect for human rights throughout our business relationships.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
Man with Van Stepney recognises that preventing modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. We are committed to continual improvement of our policies, risk assessments, and monitoring processes in light of evolving best practice, stakeholder feedback, and any incidents or concerns that may arise.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement will be reviewed annually by our management team to assess its effectiveness and relevance. The review will consider any changes in our operations, supply chain structure, and applicable legislation. Where necessary, we will update our measures to strengthen protections against modern slavery and human trafficking.
This statement reflects the position and commitment of Man with Van Stepney for the current financial year and has been approved by the company’s management.
